Sand Casting Services

With generations of experience in the cast metal and foundry industry, Kormax brings a long history of providing quality engineering materials and the expertise needed for your next project.

What is Sand Casting?

Sand casting is the oldest method of casting, dating back about 2000 years. It is also a very versatile process and can produce castings of extreme complexity. Compared to other methods, sand casting has the lowest setup cost, and is the easiest and most cost-effective to modify. Because of these features, sand casting is ideally suited for making low and medium volume production castings and converting welded parts to castings.

Sand Casting Process: How Does Sand Casting Work?

The sand casting process has been finely honed by foundrymen over a number of centuries. Over half of all metal castings globally are now produced this way. We have experience sand casting with a range of engineering materials, ensuring quality and craftsmanship on your next project.

  1. Placement: A mould of your casting is placed in sand to ensure it will take your desired shape.
  2. Gating: Channels that will funnel molten material into the shape of your casting are set up.
  3. Removal: The mould pattern is removed from the sand as the channels will force the molten material to form in your desired shape.
  4. Pouring: Molten metal is poured into the mould cavities.
  5. Cooling: The metal is allowed to cool, returning it from a liquid state back to a solid.
  6. Breaking: The mould is opened to remove the newly-casted metal.
